Classic Valve Game May Be Getting Upgraded to Source 2
The new discovery has fans speculating that Valve’s iconic game could be updated to the new and more advanced Source 2 engine. While it remains to be seen whether it will be a simple port or a remaster, Valve fans are already buzzing with the possibility enthused.
The vast majority of Valve games such as Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, Counter-Strike: GO, and Portal use the Source engine. However, the company released a new version of the engine in 2015, which was further refined with the release of Half-Life: Alyx. Source 2 makes better use of PC resources and has better lighting than the original engine. DOTA 2 in particular made the jump from the classic Source Engine to the Source 2 Engine many years ago, leading fans to wonder if other Valve games would eventually get the same treatment.
Evidence has now surfaced from Nvidia that seems to indicate that the popular Counter-Strike: Global Offensive may be getting a Source 2 release. Nvidia’s drivers have recently been updated, which sometimes means adding support for new and upcoming game releases. Experienced data-miners have discovered that among these new executable files is “csgos2.exe“; dubbed Counter-Strike 2 by the program. That could mean one of two things: the number 2 could mean the game is moving to the Source 2 engine, which has been speculated about for years, or the sequel Counter-Strike 2 could be one of Valve’s unannounced games in development .
Of course, this is far from an official confirmation from Valve itself. However, since the big Half-Life 2 fiasco in 2003, the company has notoriously remained silent about its plans. Many gamers gave up looking at anything new from Valve when it shocked fans by announcing a prequel to Half-Life 2. Life 2 a Half – Life: Alyx. Apparently, Valve has some structural issues that could be contributing to the slow pace of new game releases. It’s possible that Valve is working on something new in the Counter-Strike series that it’s keeping quiet about.
However, it is important to use it with caution. Previous leaks from Nvidia have successfully revealed some PC builds ahead of their official announcement, but others mentioned in previous leaks have not provided any results. It’s also not uncommon for Valve projects to be abandoned. It’s not uncommon to see the Valve community eager for a taste of something from an iconic game developer, but until the company officially unveils the game, it’s best to dampen expectations for.
